The prescribed painkiller “tramadol” is consumed by millions of people around the world, every single day, so it is a drug that claims lives more than any other, more than cocaine and heroin, reported the top pathologist of Northern Ireland.
This painkiller is harmless if it is consumed by the rules and 100% correctly, but it is quite dangerous when people mix it with some other drugs or even alcohol!
According to the researches 33 deaths were linked to tramadol last year in Northern Ireland. Among those who died , were a pensioner in his late 70s and a young 16 year old girl.
People are simply not aware how dangerous this painkiller can be, they simply think that even if it’s a drug, because it is prescribed it is completely safe for use.
Here is what the top pathologist of Northern Ireland reported, his name is professor Jack Crane:
The tramadol is an opiate-based drug, and should be only available for people who want to treat severe or moderate pain, of course with prescription only. But unfortunately, back in 2014 there was a reclassification in which the tramadol was announced a class C drug that can be purchased without prescription.
But according to the anti-drug campaigns, more and more people are looking for it on the black market.
Professor Crane also reported that more people are going to die if the awareness is not raised and no action is taken. He thinks that it would be better if the tramadol is reclassified as a class A drug.
Now professor Crane is calling for a meeting with the Chief Medical Officer of Northern Ireland, to make a change.
